Picasso Painting Sells for $179 Million, Setting New Auction Record; Giacometti Brings $141 Million

The title of the painting is “Women of Algiers (Version O),” and today sold for $179 million in New York. Originally valued at $140 million by Christie's, the Picasso painting boldly set a new record for the most expensive artwork ever to be sold at an auction. The evening sale, “Looking Forward to the Past,” featured 25 lots organized by Loic Gouzer, of Christie’s postwar and contemporary art department.
